Impaler is a magic weapon which follows all the normal rules for spears. In addition, if any of Gorthor's to hit rolls are doubles, triples or quadruples, each of those attacks will wound automatically, even if they would normally have missed. For example, if you roll three is to hit, you will score three automatic wounds in addition to the result of the fourth attack.

The Skull is an enchanted item. Hits against Gorthor or his Chariot with a Strength of greater than 5 count as Strength 5 instead, and can only inflict 1 wound per hit even if they would normally inflict more. Attacks that automatically wound, or score wounds on a fixed dice roll, will still do so. Note that since this item is part of Gorthor's Chariot, it will be lost if the Chariot is destroyed.

Skull of Mugrar

This talisman gives Gorthor a Ward save equal to the Strength of the attack that hit him. For example, a Strength 3 hit would grant a 3+ Ward save, a Strength 5 hit would grant a 5+ Ward save, etc. This save applies only to Gorthor himself, not to his Chariot. Note that the minimum Ward save is 6+; this does not normally matter because the Skull of Mugrar means that hits will not usually exceed Strength 5. However, certain magic items and spells may nullify the Skull of Mugrar, or Gorthor may survive after his Chariot is destroyed. If this is the case, the Cloak of the Beastlord will always grant a Ward save of at least 6+ regardless of the Strength of the attack.

Infantry (20/25mm)

Infantry includes all units of foot troops, be they Dwarfs, Elves, Men, or any other of the myriad Warhammer races fighting on foot. A typical infantry regiment is at least 10 strong but can include 20, 40 or even more! Infantry forms the backbone of most Warhammer armies.

Special Character

The Warhammer Army books include several different types of characters, be they Wizards or Heroes. However, we can easily imagine all kinds of wild individuals with different characteristic values from those given in the army lists. The characters described above are 'standard' types. They are typically representative of their race, and of the sort of Heroes and Wizards you can expect to find in a Warhammer army. Variant types of character, those differing from the standard types, are referred to as 'special characters'. Special characters are the Warhammer equivalent of famous warleaders and mages, individuals renowned amongst their own kind and abhorred by their enemies. For example, they can be the mighty leaders of nations, such as the Emperor Karl Franz of the Empire, Orc and Goblin Warlords such as Grom the Paunch of Misty Mountain, Malekith the Witch King of the Dark Elves, Hotek the renegade Priest of Vaul and many more besides. There are also important military leaders and high ranking nobles, such as Bretonnian Dukes, Elector Counts from the Empire, and devious Skaven Seers. All of these special characters are quite different from the standard types. Some are better fighters than others, but some are better leaders, while many carry specific magical weapons or ride large monsters. Numerous special characters are described in the Warhammer Army books and other Warhammer supplements and, of course, players can get together and make up their own if they wish. After all, who can resist the temptation to create a mighty leader of armies in their own image, to paint and perhaps even model him to suit their heroic vision, to name and invent a past for their character, and to fight him in battle after battle!
