Vampire Counts

The model wielding this screaming weapon causes terror. In addition, no armour saves are allowed against wounds caused by the Wailing Blade.

Von Carstein Vampires only. The model has a 4+ Ward save and the Regeneration special rule.

The Carstein Ring

Once per game the Vampire can use this power at the start of one of his turns. He can choose to summon either a Bat Swarm (one base) or D3+1 Fell Bats. Immediately calculate the Victory points value of the new unit. The unit can enter from any table edge in the same way as a unit that had pursued an enemy off the field.

Summon Bats

At the beginning of each of his turns the Vampire can decide not to move in that Movement phase and attempt to call winds. Roll a dice: on a result of 1 nothing happens, on a 2 to 6 the Vampire summons a wild storm that will last until the beginning of his next turn. If he is engaged in close combat, wounded or killed, the storm ends immediately. The storm affects the entire battlefield. All shooting is at -1 to hit. All flying movement is impossible and flying creatures have to use their ground Movement value.

Call Winds

The presence of one or more von Carsten Vampires with this power in a combat adds +1 to their side's combat resolution.

Walking Death

Once per game, the Vampire can use this power at the start of one of his turns to summon D3 Dire Wolves. Immediately calculate the Victory points value of the new unit. The unit can enter from any table edge in the same way as a unit that has pursued an enemy off the field.

Summon Wolves

If the Vampire is the army's General, the normal range of 12" for his troops to be able to march and use his Leadership is extended to 18".

Aura of Dark Majesty

The Movement of the Vampire is increased to 9 as long as he is moving on foot.

Wolf Form

Army of Sylvania only. One per army. While this Vampire is alive and on the tabletop, all enemy Wizards suffer a -1 penalty on their casting roll. Note that this has no effect if an Irresistible Force is rolled and cannot cause a Miscast.

Spectral Attendants

Army of Sylvania only. This Vampire may use the spell Invocation of Nehek to add to and raise new units of Dire Wolves, in addition to Skeletons and Zombies, raising D3/2D3/3D3 Wolves according to the Power Level. Note that this does not apply to units raised from Grave markers.

Army of Sylvania only. This Vampire has Magic Resistance (1).

Infantry (20/25mm)

Infantry includes all units of foot troops, be they Dwarfs, Elves, Men, or any other of the myriad Warhammer races fighting on foot. A typical infantry regiment is at least 10 strong but can include 20, 40 or even more! Infantry forms the backbone of most Warhammer armies.

Special Character

The Warhammer Army books include several different types of characters, be they Wizards or Heroes. However, we can easily imagine all kinds of wild individuals with different characteristic values from those given in the army lists. The characters described above are 'standard' types. They are typically representative of their race, and of the sort of Heroes and Wizards you can expect to find in a Warhammer army. Variant types of character, those differing from the standard types, are referred to as 'special characters'. Special characters are the Warhammer equivalent of famous warleaders and mages, individuals renowned amongst their own kind and abhorred by their enemies. For example, they can be the mighty leaders of nations, such as the Emperor Karl Franz of the Empire, Orc and Goblin Warlords such as Grom the Paunch of Misty Mountain, Malekith the Witch King of the Dark Elves, Hotek the renegade Priest of Vaul and many more besides. There are also important military leaders and high ranking nobles, such as Bretonnian Dukes, Elector Counts from the Empire, and devious Skaven Seers. All of these special characters are quite different from the standard types. Some are better fighters than others, but some are better leaders, while many carry specific magical weapons or ride large monsters. Numerous special characters are described in the Warhammer Army books and other Warhammer supplements and, of course, players can get together and make up their own if they wish. After all, who can resist the temptation to create a mighty leader of armies in their own image, to paint and perhaps even model him to suit their heroic vision, to name and invent a past for their character, and to fight him in battle after battle!
